I recently tried to see if I could get any freelance work, which if I’m honest hasn’t worked out.
It’s really difficult to know how and which companies to approach for work, with no immediate contacts to reach out to.
Anyway… one of the companies I reached out to was TinyRebel who make beer and I thought I would do some renders so they could see an example relevant to them. Here are those images I included in a pack:
Nice! Oleksii has a point with the metal look although it pretty much fits most cans I see in our shops They first print white ink all around so the actual colours won’t fade into some metallic look. Rockstar for example combines it a lot so partly a white coverage and partly metal.
This is a local beer from my town and it has also partly white coverage ink. Also underneath the logo for example for readability.
And maybe nice for future experiments, for Blender there are a couple of really easy to use droplet generators to cover the can in condensation droplets. No need for much knowledge about Blender to use them and it can add a lot for such images. They are also pretty cheap like €15 or so, not sure what that currently is in UK money
I completely understand what you’re going through. Not long ago, I was also looking for a full-time job, and before I took the steps I’ll describe below, I sent out around 600 resumes. I had a few interviews, but since I’m living in a foreign country (Germany) and not fluent in the local language, plus my English is still a work in progress, I found it quite challenging.
Instead of just sending emails, I researched companies where I thought I could be a good fit. Rather than waiting for a response, I decided to take a more direct approach. I created 3D renders and animations of their products and then went to the companies in person, asking to meet with the manager. I showed them the work I had done specifically for their products. I realized that for many people, simply seeing a portfolio isn’t enough, especially if they don’t understand the subtleties of product presentation or how their own product might look in 3D renders.
This approach worked for me, and I got hired by the first company I approached. Of course, freelance work is still my preferred path, but this experience helped me move forward.
I hope this might give you some ideas, and good luck with your own job search!
